DroneSense

Drone inspections of PV systems as a contribution to the energy transition

DroneSense uses innovative drones to inspect PV systems and, using AI-supported analysis, enables the proactive detection of anomalies (e.g., hotspots, PID) and their causes (e.g., vegetation, contamination, cell-level damage).
In the next step, measures to optimize plant performance are identified.

What you should know

The innovation

With the help of innovative drones, highly sensitive sensors and special software, it is possible to identify the causes of performance losses and effectively increase the yield of PV systems.
As part of the "Soiling Analysis" innovation module, a targeted drone inspection using high-resolution sensors was conducted to capture and evaluate the impact of various types of soiling on the performance of PV systems. The focus was on developing a reproducible analysis process that combines both visual and performance-related parameters.

Based on the analysis results, specific cleaning strategies can be derived. Different technologies are used depending on the surface layout and degree of contamination. Specifically, this pilot project was the first to use a special cleaning drone, which gently cleaned the individual modules using osmosis water, thus enabling a significant increase in the efficiency of the PV system.
